Vastu – Why Was Tulsi Grown In Ancient Indian Homes?
Tulsi MAA – Holy Basil
Hindu religion has bestowed ‘Tulsi’, with the status of mother. Also known as ‘Sacred or Holy Basil’, Tulsi, has been recognized as a religious and spiritual devout in many parts of the world.
The ancient Indian sages knew the benefits of Tulsi and hence they personified it as a Goddess. The clear message to the community was that it needs to be taken care of by the people. We protect it because it is like Sanjeevani, ie, immortality for the mankind.
Tulsi has great medicinal properties. It is a remarkable antibiotic. Consuming Tulsi everyday in tea or in any other form increases immunity and help prevent diseases, stabilize the health condition, balances the systems of the body and most importantly, prolongs life.
Keeping the Tulsi plant at home prevents insects and mosquitoes from entering the house. It is said that snakes do not dare to go near a Tulsi plant. Maybe that is the reason why our ancestors would grow lots of Tulsi near their houses.
Tulsi was commonly seen in ancient Hindu homes and gardens. The healing properties of Tusli should be an important reason for us to grow one at our home/office even in these modern times.
I have lost count of the innumerable families to whom I have recommended to grow a Tulsi plant at home.
I simply love seeing plants bloom at clients place in their balconies, kitchen gardens or wherever they make their green space. Adding Tulsi to this collection just adds so much life, magic and energy to a house or office.
Ah yes, if you plan to keep one, grow Shyam Tulsi & Ram Tulsi in one planter together, it works better that way.
I feel happy & grateful to play this little part of spreading this precious knowledge across.
